Tiffany & Co. Industry Leadership

Industry Leadership

As a leader in the luxury industry, we recognize the opportunity we have to influence culture and set the standards for excellence—not only in fine jewelry and craftsmanship but also in what it means to be responsible corporate citizens. Unlike other jewelers, we have implemented a vertical integration model that gives us a strong chain of custody, direct oversight of our manufacturing and a voice for improving global standards and conditions.

Whether it’s protecting pristine landscapes like Yellowstone National Park and Bristol Bay from the damaging effects of mining or voicing support for the protection of human rights in Angola and Zimbabwe, we advocate for important issues and encourage others to join us in creating meaningful change. We understand that the long-term resilience of our planet and its natural resources, the well-being of our people and the success of our business go hand in hand, which is why it is key for us to have a positive impact where we operate.

Responsible Mining

We believe fine craftsmanship starts with responsibly sourcing high-quality raw materials and continues through the creation of the final piece of jewelry. We source the majority of our rough diamonds and metals directly from mines we know and from recycled sources. We are devoted to better understanding the social, economic and environmental impact of the mining and processing of precious materials so that we can create positive change along the supply chain, all the way from the mine to our customers.

Tiffany Diamonds

At Tiffany & Co., we are committed to sourcing high-quality diamonds with integrity. We value traceability and the importance of knowing the origin of our diamonds from the moment they are unearthed as rough stones and throughout their journey to polished gems and final designs. That’s why, to start with, our diamonds are only sourced from countries that are full participants in the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. But we don’t just stop there. We go above and beyond the Kimberley Process—with our own chain of custody controls and by advocating for stronger global standards—to ensure that human rights and the environment are protected. We also strongly believe in investing in the local communities in which we operate through local hiring, fair wage practices and training and development at our diamond cutting and polishing workshops around the world.

Protecting the Environment

Our dedication to protect the natural world lies at the heart of Tiffany culture. We aspire to leave behind a world that is as beautiful and abundant as the one we inherited. We have long spoken out about the need to protect certain special places from mining such as Yellowstone National Park and Bristol Bay, Alaska.

Tiffany Blue Boxes

Making Our Iconic Blue Boxes and Bags Green

We work to ensure that our Blue Boxes and bags are made with paper from sustainable sources and recycled materials. We seek to advance the use of sustainably sourced paper and wood-fiber materials used in our business to reduce our environmental footprint.

Monitoring Our Supply Chain

At Tiffany & Co., we manufacture the majority of our products ourselves, and cut and polish diamonds at our own workshops. We also make it our business to get to know who we work with. Through our Social Accountability Program, we work with a key subset of suppliers to review and help them improve their human rights, labor and environmental performance wherever they operate around the world.

Energy and Climate Change

Energy and Climate Change

We are dedicated to reducing our energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions to protect future generations from the impacts of climate change. We are proud of our pledge to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050. To support our commitment, we are implementing a three-pronged strategy to reduce, avoid and offset our carbon emissions. This includes energy reduction initiatives, a global renewable energy program and investments in carbon offsets.

By fitting new and existing stores with LED lighting, we are reducing total energy use as part of our greenhouse gas reduction goal of 15% from 2013 to 2020. We also aim to expand our renewable energy portfolio to ultimately generate and purchase 100% of our global electricity from renewable sources to help meet our longer term aspiration of net-zero. The final piece of our strategy is to offset the emissions we are unable to reduce or avoid. We do this by supporting carbon-saving projects outside our business, including conservation programs in areas we operate.

Our Employees

Our company is only as strong as our employees and at Tiffany & Co., we prioritize building and nurturing a culture of excellence across our operations. From the sales professionals who begin their careers and retire with us to our newest designers, we are proud of our employees and know that they share our collective values of respect, inclusiveness, excellence and responsibility.

We value diversity and inclusion because we believe each of our employees can make a unique contribution to our Company and the Tiffany brand. We recognize each employee’s knowledge and skills as an important source of organizational capability and competitive advantage, ensuring there are broad training and development opportunities at all levels.

Through our support of the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles and the Sustainable Development Goals, we are advancing our longstanding commitment to women’s rights, human rights and diversity and inclusion to help ensure equal opportunities for men and women to reach their full potential in the workplace.

Charitible Giving

Charitable Giving

At Tiffany & Co., we strongly believe that a successful company has a responsibility to the greater community. We are proud of our long legacy of supporting nonprofit organizations and civic institutions in the cities and communities where we work. In 2000, The Tiffany & Co. Foundation was established to provide a clear focus for our philanthropic efforts and has awarded over USD $75 million in grants to date. The Foundation supports organizations dedicated to the stewardship of natural resources and awards grants to nonprofit organizations focused on responsible mining and coral and marine conservation.

In addition to benefitting people and the planet through our business operations, we’re supporting the local communities in which we operate through our corporate giving programs. As we continue to expand our business globally, our investments in charitable organizations are expanding as well.

The Tiffany Save the Wild collection is just one example of our efforts to help create positive change in the areas we operate. 100% of profits from the Tiffany Save the Wild collection go directly to the Wildlife Conservation Network to aid in the protection of threatened elephant populations across Africa, a place our Company has important ties to including both our sourcing and operations.

Governance

Tiffany has a long legacy of operating as a responsible corporate citizen. Our sustainable practices are incorporated into the culture of our organization. With leadership from the CSR Committee of the Board of Directors, the CEO, the chief sustainability officer (CSO) and Senior Management, Tiffany seeks to integrate and align environmental and social efforts into its long-term business objectives and practices. Our directors, officers and employees are committed to the ethical principles embodied by our Company practices and standards.
